Late Lee
Howdy.
It's been a busy week since returning from tour. I went right back into work which has been pretty busy even with the holiday season (which usually impairs occupancy).
While I was gone the landlord sent an e-mail about different ways we could buy the house through various avenues of assistance: Urban League, the city, etc...which all seems nice until I got to the last part(s) of the e-mail where says we have until February to decide. He wants to put it up for sale in the spring. Ugggghhh.
Oh, and did I mention that the price is about 30% more than it should be?
So color me bummed. I really love this place. Jessica does, too, though every other day she wants to move. And then stay. Then move. Then paint the living room. The she wants to move. Then she wants Indian food. Then she wants to rearrange furniture....
So I dunno. I have contacted two real estate friends. I have a loan officer contact as well. I am working "this" side while Jessica is looking around for potential homes for us to buy/rent for a decent price. I can't imagine wanting to own anything else though. Bleh.
Last night I went over to Neal's as we began recording Phantom Family Halo material. I am not accustomed to things moving forward so well, consitantly, and it still be enjoyable. The whole time I was telling Jessica "Yeah, we probably won't do anything tonight. Let's go see a movie when I leave."
But, we did get started. We laid down some drum tracks and had a grand old time. We're starting with a couple of PFH songs that predate my joining the group. But we've been doing them and, naturally, a lot of changes happened.
We were talking about how awesome Yoko Ono is (seriously) and Dom said "Man, we should cover a Yoko song on the next record." I think the first one suggested was "Walking On Thin Ice" and away we went. We decided to erase any trace of the dancy/80's/funky vibe to it. We wanted to neuter it like a Wire song or a Krautrock jam. I ended up playing bass as Corey wasn't there. A lot of fun.
(You have to realize the power of the moment when everybody in a room all likes/loves Yoko. Something magical has to happen when the stars align in such a fashion.)
So, tonight I need to stop by the Black Diamond Heavies show to see Brett as he wants to give me back my Scott Walker DVD. We were going to record some more. Jessica and want to see "Me and Orson Welles"...hope we can tonight but the proverbial plate may be too full.
I just realized my tour diary isn't all posted. I dunno if I have the patience to remedy that at the moment.
